This is a mulberry tree on the west end of Deer Island. A few fish crows flew off and came right back as we were leaving with stained fingers and mouths.

This little copse of trees is made up of a mulberry and hackberry trees which shows that the island was not originally a barrier island, but a ridge that was once part of the mainland and has been slowly separated by sea level rise.
