It’s November and the sunflowers I planted at work are still blooming. Shouldn’t we have had a couple of frosty nights by now?
This is on a van that’s always parked under the bridge where I park. The owner has refused to replace a broken window, leaving it covered with plastic so that thieves can just cut through it-saves time and money.
I’m thinking that this might be a home/office. (on West Silas Brown Street)
This sign is actually bleached from the sun and no, there is no tag. I think a fresh sign, maybe one every six months, might make the ruse more believable.
I was dragged into a yarn shop this weekend and this has to be the most secure yarn shop in Mississippi, possibly in the Southeast. I’ve highlighted the camera locations with arrows. Here is another view of the shop (borrowed from their website). I count six dome cameras and two other things over the doors which are probably cameras. There were three staff members in the store at all times. One guy never left the register and the women would follow you around continually asking if you needed help. I got the feeling that they were watching to make sure that you didn’t stuff skeins of yarn down your pants while you were out of their sight. I thought for a moment that it might be a front for some other, more illicit and interesting business, but then I realized that if that were true they wouldn’t care so much about the yarn. Now I know why they don’t have knitting and fiber arts shows at the Fairgrounds Trademart-it’d be too damned dangerous.
There’s something going on in the Trade Mart at the fairgrounds this weekend. It is:
a) a knife show.
b) a gun show.
c) all of the above.
Desi Arnaz gets all Angel Heart on national TV summoning the Santeria Orixa of disease (and healing). No, really.
Capoeira was born of oppression and the songs often reflect this in subtle ways. This one isn’t so subtle and it’s about a woman. A translation of the lyrics can be found here:

A car in the state fair parking lot this morning. The fine print says that the first lesson is free.
